My Background
I have always been a creative person and interested in working with people. In my teens I was a keen instrumentalist and went on to study Music at Durham University. In 1997, following four years as a primary school teacher I realised my dream and became an HCPC-registered Music Therapist. This was a hugely interesting and varied existence, where I combined a successful freelance practice with teaching and supervising, mostly within the charity Music as Therapy International. I also was excited to have published in the British Journal of Music Therapy and co-authored a book chapter. Inevitably, seeking a new challenge, I trained as a UKCP-registered Integrative Psychotherapist with the Metanoia Instutute, London. This felt like an exciting move, from music to words- like a new conversation across brain hemispheres.
I started my own private psychotherapy practice in 2021 and it feels fitting now that I integrate EMDR into my work, a therapy based on the healing, holistic activation of both sides of the brain. I draw heavily upon my advanced training in Attachment-Focussed EMDR, which emphasises the role of the imagination to create sufficient stablization for effective trauma-processing. I also offer grounding practices from Music Music which engages the brain’s natural medicine - imagery and the imagination. I am indeed the only UK EMDR Psychotherapist with this background and able to offer something so safe, accessible, yet powerful.
In addition to running my own private practice, I also have an 'EMDR Associate' role with The Sussex Psychological Therapy Centre, Hove.
I live in Steyning. In my spare time, I am a keen local singer...I love being expressive, singing beautiful music with groups of people. I practise yoga and enjoy being in nature. I have a wide range of interests, which are all about relaxation and having a good, balanced life.
